The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde tells the story of Dr Henry Jekyll, a respected scientist in Victorian London who becomes obsessed with the idea that human beings have both a good and an evil side.
To explore this idea, he creates a chemical formula that allows him to transform into Mr Edward Hyde, a separate identity who represents his darker instincts. At first, Jekyll enjoys the freedom of living without moral responsibility through Hyde. However, Hyde gradually becomes stronger, more violent, and increasingly difficult to control.
As strange and criminal events take place in London, Jekylls friends begin to investigate the connection between him and the mysterious Hyde. Eventually, it is revealed that Jekyll and Hyde are the same person, and Jekyll loses control over his transformations.
The novel explores themes such as duality of human nature, morality, identity, and the danger of uncontrolled scientific experimentation. It shows how separating good and evil can ultimately lead to destruction.
