The Picture of Dorian Gray tells the story of Dorian Gray, a young man who is extremely handsome and becomes fascinated with the idea of staying young forever.
After meeting the artist Basil Hallward and the cynical Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian expresses a wish that his portrait would age instead of him. Surprisingly, this wish comes true: while Dorian remains young and beautiful, his painted portrait begins to age and reflect all his sins and moral corruption.
As time passes, Dorian leads a life full of pleasure, excess, and immoral actions without suffering visible consequences. However, the portrait becomes increasingly horrifying, showing the true state of his soul. Eventually, Dorian cannot escape the consequences of his choices, and his double life leads to tragedy.
The novel explores themes such as vanity, morality, the effects of influence, beauty, and the corruption of the soul.
