The Mysterious Island tells the story of five prisoners of war who escape during the American Civil War by stealing a hot-air balloon. After a violent storm, they crash on an unknown and deserted island in the Pacific Ocean.

The group, led by the engineer Cyrus Smith, must work together to survive. Using their knowledge and skills, they manage to build shelter, tools, and even basic technology to live on the island. They gradually turn the place into a small functioning colony.

While they are trying to survive, they experience strange and seemingly impossible events, such as mysterious help arriving at crucial moments. These events suggest that someone unknown may be watching over them.

Later, they discover that a dangerous group of pirates is also involved in the island’s story, leading to conflict and danger.

The novel explores themes such as survival, science, teamwork, and mystery, and shows how human intelligence and cooperation can overcome extreme conditions.
